+++MECHANICUS FORCES DEPLOYED PLANET SIDE, DAWNHAMMER ENGAGED WITH SPACE BORNE THREATS +++
At the edges of Imperial Space Kavir burns.
Upon exiting the Mynthosian Rift Dawnhammer is bombarded by distress hails. The Cicatrix Maledictum has disgorged countless warp spawned daemonic abominations on the Imperial planet of Kavir at the edge of the Mynthosian Rift. Innocent people are put to blade as daemons run rampant across the surface of the planet in an orgy of violence and death unseen in an age. Kavir hangs in space like a dying whale carcass being picked apart by voracious predators. To aid in the escape of the citizens of Kavir, Lord Arkhan deploys Tech Priest Izmirian to the surface of Kavir with his full honor guard while his personal forces remain aboard Dawnhammer to engage other foes.
Izmirian’s Skitarii Vanguard engage putrid daemons aligned to the Plague God Nurgle while Kataphron Breachers use their formidable Graviton weaponry to twist the daemonic forms to shapeless pulp. Hordes of blood crazed daemons of Khorne rush towards the honor guard in ever larger waves but the Explorator’s forces keep the daemons at bay as transport ships swollen with civilians attempt to break into orbit. In space the forces of Lord Arkhan engage space-borne vessels of the Archenemy emerging from the Rift. Mass accelerators and laser batteries pound heretical craft but still the tide comes on, although valiant in its efforts the Dawnhammer is still boarded. After running firefights with Renegade boarding parties and Heretic Astartes breachers the Scions emerge victorious repelling the enemy from the hallowed corridors and bulk heads of the Dawnhammer.
With the defense of Dawnhammer complete and the majority of civilian ships escaping from Kavir Tech Priest Izmirian, having been injured in the fight and suffering from heavy losses, teleports aboard the Dawnhammer unable to stem the tide any further. With their primary objectives complete they make a swift and necessary retreat back into Imperial space. Lord Arkhan watches from the bridge as Kavir becomes distant in the viewport, a mangled corpse of its formal wild beauty. Vowing to someday return to reclaim these lost worlds Arkhan sets course for the Inquisition-controlled Space Fortress Song of Veletis and steps into an uncertain future.
